Tadayuki Kawasaki, Chairman, International Foundation for the Promotion of Clinical Engineering

On December 20, 2017, the Nipro Dialysis Training Center i-CEP (Nipro i-CEP) was established on the campus of Shanghai Health Medical College, one of Shanghai's largest medical colleges.

As a technical advisor and special advisor to the Shanghai Municipal Blood Purification Quality Management Center, I was involved in the design and construction, and therefore participated in the opening ceremony. I also gave a commemorative lecture to students titled "The History and Future of Dialysis Technology in Japan."

The participants included Mr. Sano, President of Nipro Corporation; Mr. Matsunoshita, General Manager of Nipro Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.; Mr. Li Xiangdong, Advisor; and as guests of honor, Mr. Katsunobu Hashimoto, Executive Director of Osaka Jikei Gakuen; Mr. Liu Xuejun, Chief Technician of the Dialysis Unit at Beijing Sino-Japanese Friendship Hospital, which is directly under the Ministry of Health of China; Mr. Tadayuki Kawasaki, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Foundation for the Promotion of Clinical Engineering and Honorary Chairman of the Japan Society of Clinical Engineers; and university officials.

In China, the number of dialysis units has surged, exceeding 400,000, and the number of potential dialysis patients is estimated to be as high as 1.5 million, leading to increased demand for nurses and clinical engineers.

In this context, we expect that a training facility equipped with a simulated dialysis room, machine room, and maintenance practice room will greatly contribute to the training of not only students who will become clinical engineers, but also dialysis staff such as nurses and technicians working in hospitals.
